What is organic farming? How does it promote a healthy lifestyle? Organic farming is a form of farming that relies on plant production based on green manure, compost and biological pest control rather than pesticides and herbicides. Therefore, such a process can help people lead a healthy lifestyle due to the lack of chemical content.
These organic farming methods are internationally regulated and legally enforced by many countries. In our cooperative, all our suppliers’ farms are honest and ecologically certified by an international certification body. Fair trade in the sense that we adhere to the international fair trade protocol, especially in terms of wage compliance and child labor law. Ecological also because the only fertilizer allowed on our farms is SALT. It is based on the minimum use of inputs outside the farm and on management practices that restore, maintain and strengthen ecological harmony.
As the environmental awareness of the general public at home and abroad increases, originally supply-driven organic traffic is transforming into demand-driven movement. For coconut farmers, high prices have prompted farmers to convert their farms to organic.
Organic farming methods are a mix of ecological scientific knowledge and modern technology as the practices are based on naturally occurring biological processes. It also deals with environmental protection and acting in harmony with existing ecosystems, including the protection of water, soil and energy, and the use of renewable resources and natural agricultural cycles.
Moreover, organic food is not necessarily completely chemical-free. They can be grown on land that was not previously used for organic food production and therefore may contain chemical residues. However, pesticide residues in organic food are much lower than those found in food produced from synthetic chemicals.
Most people buy organically grown foods because they are concerned about pesticides, additives, antibiotics, or other chemical residues. Although pesticide residues in fruits and vegetables are monitored, many people believe that organic food is healthier. Some people are concerned about the long-term health, economic and environmental consequences of genetically produced food and choose organic food.
Organic food promotes a healthier and more sustainable use of natural resources. Modern farming methods, including the excessive use of chemicals, have led to a decline in soil fertility for many years and an increase in salinity and cyanobacteria in waterways. Organic farmers try to minimize the damage to the environment by physically controlling weeds and using animal and green manure.
Organic food is often more expensive than conventionally produced food because organic farming tends to operate on a smaller scale. Production is more labor-intensive and yields are generally lower. It is known that high production is achieved by using herbicides and pesticides.
Despite this problem, when we patronize organic products, we are guaranteed that our lives will be healthier, safer and longer.
