Green life
These days, being green is part of almost everything. There is green food, green clothing, green houses, green energy, green gadgets and almost everything that exists is classified as green. This means that the products are sustainable and leave a small footprint on the ground. For example, you can use less oil-based products and more plant-based products because it is sustainable and healthier for humans. This is a great trend that has caught on due to the rise in high levels of education and the recent trend of massive increases in the price of low-quality goods. Additionally, the recent spike in gas has helped many people to go green.
The trend is strongly product-focused. You need the right green food because you’ll live longer and be healthier. You need hemp fabric because it is so much better for your skin. The list goes on. It’s nice that we have ecological products, but you can get lost in all the details. We must remember that being green is about more than just buying the right things. It is a way of life that brings solidarity and harmony to life and society.
All living things connected
Do you see a child’s happiness compared to an adult’s happiness? How can you feel the joy of a child or puppy? The joy of every living being comes from a spiritual connection. It doesn’t always make sense. For example, babies and children have little control over their environment and yet are very happy. It makes sense that through our culture we learn that happiness comes from a particular way of life. We can call it a good life. Usually it has to do with home, education, a nice car and family vacation.
Fortunately, there are true green enthusiasts who have a different understanding of the connection with the earth. In the film, Into the wild the main character says life was most exciting when he was penniless. This is the true story of a man who gave up all his fortune and burned money in search of a connection with God.
Native Americans have long understood the connection between connection to the earth and joy in living. The earth gives to each of us, and we should give back in return. Many cultures believe that God rewards good for good and evil for evil. You do something good and it comes back to you. Therefore, do many good things for people and for people.
How does Green Living connect us?
Most of all, living green makes you think about how we all interact in society. This is more altruistic because you don’t focus on maximizing every dollar. You focus on changes from consuming as much as possible to responsibly consuming what you need and giving. Many people in this trend will say that one day they just struck them that the only thing they would leave on the ground when they passed on is their heritage. How do you leave a legacy? You need to connect with people and change your surroundings. You can’t do it by sipping a Coke and watching 35 hours of TV a week.
Simple and green life
It all starts with minor changes. One good thing to do is sit down and make a list of all the items you regularly buy and put in (want) or n (need) next to the item. If you’re really honest, the needs aren’t that high. Many of us struggle because of our needs without realizing it. It’s still good to plan your needs and have them. The important thing is what you focus on. Does your focus help you connect (happiness) or disconnect (unhappiness)? At some point, many environmentalists will actually feel relieved not to buy items. There is this rush and well-being from shopping that many people feel. However, the more connected you feel, the less you’ll want to shop. Indeed, many will eventually feel true peace without missing anything. Some people in the green movement do feel sorry for these obsessive materialists. They don’t mock it, but they sincerely want everyone around them to feel the same bond.
Some green steps
The first thing for many of us is that we start to process things. We find some joy in knowing that we are good stewards of what we have. Then the big leap can be buying a green car or a green wardrobe. Some of us may just think it’s a fun thing to do.
Perhaps the biggest step is that you start simplifying your life. It is different for everyone. You can drink one cup instead of several a day. You can walk through your house and eliminate items you don’t use. In fact, you may start to enjoy getting rid of things because you realize that the fewer things you have, the easier it is for you to connect. You begin to feel a freedom of spirit that is beyond the norm. Your style becomes minimalist and your shopping is based on holistic ideals that increase connectivity. You will no longer be thirsty, but instead you will find intense joy in just being alive. How do you find this joy?
know yourself
Some spiritual teachers believe that the greatest knowledge about happiness is to know yourself. As William Shakespeare said, “Be true to yourself.” How can you be true to yourself if you don’t know who you are? It’s a tough question, but at first glance, there are a few things I’m sure of. I can connect with living things. I can connect with people much better in person than through TV. I can connect with natural products much better than with man-made products. The concept of getting to know me comes from serving others.
Consumerism and materialism tend to power a large part of our culture. Many focus on themselves. This inner focus blinds the real self. In some cases, the concept of self is rejected and the void is filled with countless hours of television, eating and shopping. The greater the void, the stronger the feeling that there is more and more because people unconsciously think that the void can be filled with things. It is logical, because this is what culture teaches them from birth. Corporations spend billions of dollars reinforcing the idea that things will make us happy and defining our needs for us. Many of us mistakenly believe that we are immune to all sneaky advertising.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to identify your own needs? It is important that we listen to our own heart. Don’t ignore the little voice in you! Pay attention to it, follow it and the voice will get louder. You will become more connected over time.
We didn’t focus too much on the product, but being green is about much more than buying the most fuel-efficient car, wearing bamboo clothes or eating organic food. A green life is ultimately solidarity and inner peace.
